Kindle, Kindle Fire, iPad
As a heavy user of Amazon’s 2nd generation Kindle (with 3G) and Apple’s iPad 2 3G, I am NOT impressed to Kindle Fire.
People says Kindle is not only a book reader but also a portable bookstore, and I completely agree to them. (I also agree that Kindle is a cache eater.)
Still I want to claim that:
- The best reading experience under daylight is given by e-ink display, but not LCD.
- Amazon’s Whispernet (reading point, bookmark, highlight synchronizing and social highlighting over the internet) will best work with 3G network.

Kindleは単なる電子ブックリーダではない．それは持ち歩けるオンライン書店だ．（しかも現金吸い上げ器でもある．）とはいえ，僕には次の不満が残る．
- 日中の読書はe-inkに限る．LCDで読書は不可能．
- Whispernet（Amazonが提供するサービスで，読んでいる位置や栞，ハイライトの同期はもちろん，ソーシャルハイライト機能も提供する）は3Gでこそ威力を発揮する（注：UQ WiMAX + WiFi と比較しての話）
Tools First / カタチから入る
I love beautiful tools. I prefer MacBook Air to ToughBook. I prefer iPhone to Androids. I prefer BSDs to Linux distros. Beautiful tools will teach me very many things.
This is why I am seriously thinking of Calvetica as my organizer (scheduler). I have been using Pocket Informant on iPhone and iPad for years so far. It synchronizes to multiple Google calendars (without any tricks) and Toodledo account, renders calendars (fixed appointments) and to-dos (floating appointments) in right places simultaneously on the screen.
Everything I needed for managing my personal schedule was already here.
And here comes Calvetica.
Calvetica is an iPhone/iPad app (good news: this app is universal) which renders your calendar with beautiful Helvetica fonts.
Since Pocket Informant is the most powerful organizer ever, and it has already been a part of my life, I couldn’t help but compare Calvetica and Pocket Informant. At my first glance, Calvetica was just a toy. It was just a beautiful toy.
I couldn’t imagine organizing my schedule without multiple calendars and super powerful Toodledo. I was managing up to six calendars (university, universe, online, deadline, public events, and personal events) in addition to other guys’ calendars (about three or four) —- main reason why I used multiple calendars was that I wanted to change colors group by group for better looking. (Multiple colors in a single calendar is now supported by web interface of Google Calendar.) Even worse, my Toodledo accounts held over 200 projects (folders) and only Pocket Informant could handle them.
But I found something.
I often turn on and off visibility of calendars for focusing specific calendars on Pocket Informant. I also often apply multiple filters and sorters to Toodledo for checking tasks I should do next.
I feel I was seeking simplicity under my conscious by sorting my schedules by metadata (calendar names, task folders, tags, contexts, etc) which was manually added to original data (appointments, tasks, etc).
Adding metadata and then sorting by the metadata would be nice for organizing teams, but would be an overkill for personal scheduling. (For group scheduling we are using Brabio now.)
I’m now testing a unified calendar on Google and rendering it with Calvetica (as well as new iCal on iOS 5). I put my six different calendar into a single new calendar which I will use mainly. As Calvetica doesn’t support Toodledo at all, I feel this is a good timing to switch from Toodledo to more simple (but not too simple) web services like Nozbe.
I think I’ll have to go around between my personal scheduling mode and overall scheduling mode. It is quite possible that I’ll occasionally switch a couple of calendar apps for doing so.

僕は美しい道具が好きだ．ToughBookよりもMacBookが好きだし，アンドロイドよりもiPhoneが好きだし，LinuxシステムよりもBSDのほうが好きだ．それに，美しい道具はユーザを成長させる．
だから，毎日使うオーガナイザ（スケジューラ）としてCalveticaに心動かされるのも無理はない．僕はこれまでずっと Pocket Informant を使ってきたにも関わらずだ．Pocket Informant はややこしいトリック無しで複数のGoogleカレンダーに同期できるし，Toodledoタスクリストとも同期する．カレンダーとタスクリストは同時に適切な場所に表示されるので，とっても便利だ．
要するに，アポイントメント管理（時間の不動産管理と言える）やタスク管理（同じ喩えを使うと時間の動産管理）はすべて Pocket Informant でできるし，それで十分だ．
しかしCalveticaへ目が行ってしまった．
CalveticaはiPhone/iPad用のカレンダーアプリで（しかもユニバーサル！），ヘルベチカフォントによる美しいレンダリングが特徴だ．
Pocket Informant はこの世で最強のオーガナイザだし，すでに僕の生活の一部になっているのだから，Calveticaと Pocket Informant をついつい比べてしまうのは仕方ない．実際，初めてCalveticaを見たときは（いまより古いバージョンだ），単なる玩具に思えた．美しいが，ただの玩具だ．
複数カレンダーとタスクリストを統合的に管理できないオーガナイザなんて使い物にならないと思っていたし，まして超高機能なToodledoを手放すなんて考えたこともなかった．僕は自分自身用に6個のカレンダーを作っていたし（主たる理由はもともとGoogleカレンダーが個別のイベントごとに色を変えられなかったからだが），他のメンバーのカレンダーも見る必要がある．Toodledoには200以上のプロジェクトが常時控えている．Pocket Informant 以外にこれだけのタスクをさくっと扱えるアプリを僕は知らない．
でも気づいたんだ．
僕は Pocket Informant で予定を確認する時，フィルタやソータを使って表示するアポイントメントやタスクを絞り込む．つまり，無意識的に簡潔さを求めているように思う．
データ（アポイントメントやタスク）にメタデータ（カレンダー名，タグなど）を与えて，後でメタデータで絞り込むのはグループワークには良い方法だろう．でも個人にはオーバーキルのような気がする．（グループワークには今はBrabioを使っている．）
僕は今，従来複数のカレンダーに分割していた個人予定をひとつのカレンダーに統合し，Calveticaで閲覧，編集するテストを行っている．CalveticaはToodledoと連携しないので，Toodledo以外のタスク管理サービスを検討するいい機会だとも思っている．それは，簡潔すぎてはいけないから，Nozbeになるかもしれない．
今後も特定のスケジュールだけ見る瞬間と，全部のスケジュールを見渡す瞬間はあるだろう．そんなときは，アプリごと切り替えるかもしれない．
因みに，オンラインのオーガナイザを使い始める前は，長く Quo Vadis トリノートを使っていた．大きさがiPadと同じなのは，何かあるのかもしれない．
Good Tools Satisfy Not Only Pros / 良い道具はプロだけのものではない
As I checked up Keynote for iPad, I found that iPad is NOT anything designed by hacker for non-hacker, but it is something designed by hacker for hacker. As Gmail is, it is so well designed that everyone loves it.
Keynote for iPad を使ってわかった．iPadは玄人が素人のために作ったデバイスではない．玄人が玄人のために作ったデバイスだ．Gmailがそうであるように，それはあまりにもよく設計されているので，使う人を選ばないだけだ．
Just One Big Thing iPad Is Missing / iPadに足りないたったひとつのもの
iPad is an ultimate personal computer for me (except for development). Accompanying with the bluetooth keyboard, iPad is a perfect computer for writing, reading, viewing, playing, authoring, editing, etc. etc.
And I have been trying to fill the last space left in iPad for a year. Drawing. As I am a painter and not so poor at drawing by finger, I thought I would soon get used to drawing on iPad. Result? I cannot say that iPad is a far better device than MacBook + Intuos pen tablet.
Though certainly there are many styluses for iPad, none of them are good enough. (CAUTION: I haven’t tried Bamboo Stylus yet. It could be an exception.) One reason that stylus for iPad is not so good is in sensing mechanism of iPad. The touch sensor of iPad (and iPhone) is capacitance based, but not electromagnetic based like Intuos, Bamboo, etc. Since human skin is conductor, Apple had to implement capacitance based touch sensor on iPad and iPhone. And capacitance based touch sensor has a weak point in resolution of touch sensing.
Of course there are solutions for hand/stylus dual-mode touch screen with far better resolution. (One solution will be out from Sharp.)
iCode: The Next Step / 次なる一手 iCode
Steve Jobs said iPad is a perfect device for browsing web, doing email, enjoying and sharing photographs, watching video, enjoying music collection, playing games, and reading e-books. He said it fits in the room between smart phone and laptop at WWDC 2010.
Now we know Steve Jobs was too modest. The iPad has proved, at least from my viewpoint, it is a far better device for presentation, writing professional documents, drawing pictures, editing movies, and playing musics than MacBook.
So what is the next logical step? Where is the sacred place left in a Mac? It is development. It is the last place only Mac exclusively holds.
As we will soon see, Apple will sacrifie their Mac to change definition of PC, to destroy whole PC industry, and to build a new industry on top of it. And I am 100% sure that Apple will release iOS version of Xcode very soon. The name will be iCode.
The iCloud service will provide automatic transfer and synchronization of codes and binaries between OS X and iOS until the termination of OS X. (After the termination of OS X the iCloud only provides iOS-iOS synchronization.)
At WWDC 2010 Steve Jobs said the iPad was the third (mobile) device. No. He must have believed that the iPad was the first device replacing MacBook. He must have knew that the conventional PC industry would be fade away, and Apple would be the one who would finish it off, as well as they started it up.
スティーブ・ジョブズはWWDC 2010でこう言った．iPadはウェブブラウジング，メール，写真の共有，ビデオ鑑賞，音楽鑑賞，ゲーム，電子書籍に最適なデバイスだと．彼はこうも言った．iPadはスマートフォンとラップトップの間を埋めるものだと．
ジョブズは謙虚すぎたのではないか．少なくとも僕の見たところ，iPadはMacBookに比べても優れたプレゼンテーション機器であり，ワードプロセッサであり，お絵かきツールであり，楽器である．
となると，アップルの次なる一手は何か？Macに残された聖域はどこだ？もちろん，それは開発環境である．
我々がきっともうすぐ見るように，アップルはMacを犠牲にしてでも，PC業界全体を塗り替える．だから僕はアップルがiOS向けのXcodeを提供すると確信している．たぶん名前はiCodeになるだろう．
新しいiCloudサービスによって，開発者はコードとバイナリをOS XとiOSで同期させることができるだろう．これはアップルがOS XをiOSに統合するまでの移行措置になるだろう．

How to improve your work:energy balance with iPad / PCからiPadに移行して節電しよう
We can save electric power by switching from PCs to iPads. But how? Let me explain.
Before the day my MacBook Air was gone, I had always brought my Mac with me almost everywhere. But, now I know I can live without my Mac many hours if I have my iPad with me. There are many good apps and web services nowadays; and thanks to them, it is very easy to switch from PCs to iPads.
Here are some hints from my personal experiences.
1. Email
Use Gmail on the web. It is far better than Mac’s Mail app when you are online. If you need an offline access to your emails, you can still use mail clients like Mail on iPad. If you really like to do something else while typing your email, and if you are not satisfied with iOS’s multitasking feature, use iPhone simultaneously. I’m not kidding. This is what I do all the time.
2. Managing Contacts
The Addressbook app of Mac is also available on iPad, and everything works perfectly. If you have a Mobile Me account, or you can wait for launch of iCloud, the Mac’s address book and iPad’s address book are completely synchronized on the air. Otherwise, iTunes will synchronize them.
3. Scheduling
Use Google Calendar or iCal. It just works. If you want to be more productive, try Pocket Informant, or other *paid* calendar apps. I feel the Mobile Me (iCloud) calendar and iCal are good enough, however, you need Google Calendar for using such non-official calendar apps.
4. Managing To-Do
If you like Mail/iCal, use it. However, I recommend Toodledo or Remember the Milk (RTM) for better To-Do management. The RTM client requires paid pro-subscription, however, it works beautifully. The Pocket Informant, which I introduced already, integrates Toodledo and Google Calendar in reasonable way.
5. Web browsing
You can use mobile Safari browser. Though it is a far better browser than Mac’s original Safari, there are yet better browsers for iPad. My favorite one is iLunascape. iPad also has amazing YouTube browser. Flash? Forget it.
6. Reading
iPad can run Kindle, iBooks, and many PDF viewers. Good Reader is one of killer apps in this category. It opens almost everything except for ePub format. For opening ePubs, try iBooks.
7. Writing/Spreadsheet/Presentation
There are plenty of good text editors that can sync text files via cloud services. Evernote is one of the best app in this category. There also is an iPad version of Pages.
There is an iPad version of Numbers. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to use it so far, thus I cannot comment on spreadsheet on iPad.
Keynote for iPad is really awesome. I use it all the time. The Keynote for iPad is not only a Keynote player, but is really an editor.
8. Image processing and movie editing
There are no full version of Photoshop on iPad, however, we can do many things on iPad.
The iMove for iPhone/iPod touch is really amazing. Since iPad 2, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4G are equipped with a built-in camera, you can take some shot, edit in-situ, add music on the fly, and show the movie right instant. I guarantee your friends will loose words. This is so cool.
Another my favorite on iPad is Sketchbook Pro.
9. Web authoring/Blogging
Web authoring is a little bit difficult task for iPad. I personally had used Dreamweaver, iWeb, and then BiND. Now I moved everything expect for the top page of my site to Google’s wiki farm named Google sites. Web pages on Google sites are less pretty, but they are editable from almost anywhere, and provide enough functions for general non-comercial web sites. I feel it is worth considering to use Google sites for your main web page. The Google sites support custom web domain.
Almost all blog systems accept access from iPad, however, you’d better choose blog system that supports plain text editor with HTML functionality (not a WYSIWIG rich text editor). I personally recommend Blogger or Tumblr, but any system might be okay.
10. Development
Unfortunately there is a just single choice in developing on iPad. Write JavaScript, push it to a server, and open it with Safari. You cannot run Xcode, you cannot run Processing, you cannot do anything except for running JavaScript. Use your Mac, that is the only way.

1. Email
ウェブでGmailを使うのがいい．MacのMailアプリより便利だ．オフラインアクセスが必要ならば，iPadでメールクライアントを走らせるのがいい．例えば純正のMailとか．もしメールを書きながら何かしたいのであれば，iPadのマルチタスク機能を使えば良いのだけれど，それでも足りないのなら，iPhoneと一緒に使うといい．事実僕はずっとそうしている．
2. 連絡先管理
iPadの電話帳がちゃんと動く．Mobile Me か（まだ先だけど）iCloudでPC/Macと同期できるし，今でもiTunesで同期できる．
3. カレンダー
純正のiCalかGoogleカレンダーを使うといい．有料のカレンダーアプリは本当におすすめ．僕は Pocket Informant を使っている．ほとんどのカレンダーアプリはGoogleカレンダーに同期する．
4. タスク管理
MacでMailやiCalでタスク管理している人はそのまま移行できる．だけど，僕はToodledoや Remember the Milk (RTM) のようなウェブサービスを勧めたい．RTMクライアントを使う場合は有料サブスクリプションが必要だが，かなり使いやすい．僕自身は先ほど紹介した Pocket Informant をToodledoと同期させて使っている．
5. ウェブ閲覧
モバイルSafariで問題なし．ただしiLunascapeのようなもっといいブラウザも無料である．純正のYouTubeブラウザも便利だ．Flash? 忘れよう．
6. 読む
Kindleもあるし，iBooksもある．PDFビューアはよりどりみどりだ．Good Reader はePubをのぞくほとんどのフォーマットを開けるので便利．ePubはiBooksで開ける．
7. 書く，表計算，プレゼンテーション
iPadには素晴らしいテキストエディタがいくつもあるし，クラウドと同期もできる．Evernoteはまさにカテゴリーキラーだ．iPadにはPagesもあるのでワープロとしても使える．
iPadにはNumbersという表計算アプリもあるのだが，使ったことがないのでコメントは出来ない．
Keynoteはすニャらしいアプリだ．プレゼンテーションのプレーヤだけでなく，本当のエディタでもある．僕は毎日使っている．
8. 画像処理，動画編集
Photoshopは無いけれど，かなりのことがiPadだけで出来る．Sketchbook Pro もいいよ．
動画編集アプリiMovieはなかなかいい．iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G ならば，その場で撮影して，その場で編集して，その場で見せることが出来る．これは革命だ．
9. ウェブ編集，ブログ
ウェブ編集はiPadにはちょっと荷が重いのかもしれない．僕自身は自分のウェブページをWikiファームであるGoogleサイトへ移行した．これならiPadから編集できる．テキストベースのエディタ機能があるWikiファーム，ブログサービスを選べば問題ない．
10. 開発
これは厳しい．唯一できることは，JavaScriptを書いて，サーバに送って，そのサーバをSafariで開くことぐらいだ．それ以外はMacがいる．
Say Good-Bye to Cocoa / Cocoaにさようなら
How do they integrate Cocoa (OS X) and Cocoa Touch (iOS)?
The OS X has several layers of services: micro kernel and device drivers including graphics (OpenGL 3D) driver, BSD services, Core Foundation library, Core Graphics (a.k.a. Quartz 2D) library, Foundation framework, Media frameworks including Quartz Core framework, and User Interface (UI) framework named Cocoa.
The iOS has same layers as OS X has but the UI framework is replaced by Cocoa Touch. The Cocoa Touch is a modern API that can beautifully handle user interfaces. On the other hand, Cocoa, whose origin is in NeXTSTEP, allows programmers to use old-fashioned model of UI as well as modern models of Cocoa Touch.
I am under the impression that Apple no longer want to support such old-fashioned programming style that Cocoa has allowed so far. If Apple really merge the OS X and iOS, Cocoa will be disappeared.

OS X はいくつかのレイヤーからなっている．マイクロカーネルとデバイスドライバ（OpenGLグラフィックスドライバを含む），BSDサービス，Core Foundation ライブラリ，Core Graphics (Quartz) ライブラリ，Foundation フレームワーク，メディアフレームワーク（Quartz Core フレームワークを含む），そしてCocoaユーザインタフェース(UI)フレームワーク．
iOSも同じようなレイヤーからなっている．ただしUIは Cocoa Touch フレームワークで置き換えられている．この Cocoa Touch はユーザインタフェースを実に美しくモデル化したAPIだ．一方，NeXTSTEPから続くCocoaはいささか古いスタイルのモデルも，Cocoa Touch のような新しいスタイルと同様に，受け付ける．
僕は将来アップルが古いUIプログラミングスタイルを捨てるのではないかと思う．もし OS X と iOS が統合されたら，Cocoaは消えて無くなるだろう．
トランジション
水曜日(2011-05-11)に，愛用していた MacBook Air が故障しました．もともと熱設計に難があったのか冷やさないと調子が悪くなることが多々あり，クロックを800MHzに落として使っていましたが，ついに起動しなくなりました．
MacBook Air が故障したときは自宅にいて，折悪くバックアップ用のMacを大学に持って行ってしまった後だったので，手元に使えるMac/PCが一台もありませんでした．メールの処理だけはその日にしてしまいたかったので，iPadでメールを処理し始めたのですが，小さな問題がありました．僕は普段アップル社の Mobile Me メールサービスを使っており，要返信のメールにはフラグ（Gmailの星のようなもの）を立てて目印にしていたのですが，iPadの純正メーラ(Mail)ではフラグが見えないのです．
モバイルSafariで Mobile Me のウェブ版にログインしようとすると「SafariはいいからMailアプリを使え」と怒られてしまいます．ユーザエージェントを見られていると思い Opera Mini をインストールしてアクセスしてみましたが，今度はレンダリングがぐだぐだで，フラグの状態が見られませんでした．Twitterで助けを求めたところ，フォロワーの方が iLunascape というブラウザを教えて下さり，お陰で無事フラグのついたメールを拾うことができました．
もともと純正のMailの使いづらさを感じていたので，ついでに ibisMail （リンク先はiPhone版）というメーラを購入しました．こちらでも Mobile Me メールのフラグ状態は確認できませんが，フォルダ管理が出来ます．ひとまず iLunascape で Mobile Me のウェブインタフェースにログインして，フラグ付きメールを全て新しく作った [Flagged] というフォルダに移動させました．これで要返信メールを ibisMail から確認出来ます．その夜はこれでしのぎました．
幸い，全てのファイルは SugarSync を使ってバックアップのMacやウェブストレージと同期をとっていましたので，無くしたファイルはありませんでした．またメモや書類はEvernoteにつっこんでありますし，to do リストはToodledoというウェブサービスで管理していますし，スケジュールはGoogleカレンダーに置いてありますから，情報を無くす被害はありませんでした．あと，写真はFlickrに（落書きはSkitchに）置いていますし，ブックマークはDeliciousに，ソースコードは Sourceforge.net サーバに置いて公開していますので，Macの1台や2台壊れても大丈夫です．
しかし，移動中に使えるラップトップがありません．そこで，これはきっとiPadに完全移行しなさいという意味だと捉えて，なんでもiPadで出来るように環境を整え直すことにしました．（ちなみに僕はDvorakタイパーなので，iPadのソフトウェアキーボードは鬼門なのですが，そこは当座我慢します．外部キーボードを使うとDvorak配列が使えます．）
まずメール問題です．純正のMailにしても ibisMail にしてもフラグが使えません．そこで，ラベル機能のあるGmailにえいやっと移行してしまいました．Mobile Me に届いたメールはGmailへ転送です．iPadがネットに繋がっているときは（3Gモデルではないのです）Gmailのウェブインタフェースで，ネットに繋がっていないときは ibisMail でメールをハンドリングします．これはかなり快適です．もう Mobile Me には戻らない気がします．ただアドレス帳はGmailのものよりも Mobile Me のほうがよく出来ています．
次にブログです．このブログはBloggerを使っているのですが，iPadからだと投稿しにくいのです．日本のブログサービスのようにメールで投稿できたり，絵文字が使えたりといった細かい心配りがあるわけでもなく，かといってFC2のように細かい設定もできません．ブログサービスは The Light Stuff の立ち上げの時にいろいろ触ってみましたが，驚くことに，本当に良くできているなと感心したのはTumblrだけでした．Twitterのように簡単に投稿できるし，普通のブログのように長文も扱えます．僕はこのブログでしばしばしてきたように本文に数式を（Google Chart API を使って）埋めることがあるのですが，さすがにそれはTumblrでは出来ません．でもまあ，iPhoneやiPadから投稿しやすいというメリットは絶大です．どうしても数式を埋めたくなったときは別途方法を考えましょう．（訂正: Tumblrでも数式を埋められました．）
TumblrはBloggerのように1アカウントで複数のブログを作れるほか，ドメインを持っていれば無料で独自ドメインに対応してくれます．早速アドレスを決めました． http://blog.pineappledesign.org/ です．移行準備が整えば，改めてエントリーを起こしてアナウンスしようと思います．ひょっとしたらお気づきの方もおられるかもしれませんが，僕はこれまでにも複数のTumblrブログを運用してきました．そのうちのひとつをメインのブログに昇格させて，ついでに独自ドメインに移行させます．以前は英語ブログと日本語ブログを使い分けていましたが，今後どうするかは思案中です．（でもひょっとしたらFacebookに完全移行しちゃうかもしれません．）
KeynoteやPagesもiPadにありますし，プラットフォームをiPadに徐々に移行して行けそうです．出来ればiMovieとGaragebandも移行してしまいたいですが，まださすがに厳しいかなと思います．僕のiPadは初代だし．
あと，移動中によく使っていたアプリは，ウェブ制作のBiNDとアプリ制作のXcodeです．こればっかりはMacが必須ですね．．．でも例えば，ウェブはGoogleサイト，開発は JavaScript 専門と割り切れば，iPadでもなんとかなるかもしれません．ならないかな．
大学にはアプリ開発用のiMacを置いているのですが，当座はこれで事務仕事もまわさないといけません．それにはまず日本語入力を出来るようにしないといけません．ことえりはDvorakローマ字入力が出来ないので（たぶん），ものすごいストレスになります．僕はATOK派だったので手持ちのATOKを入れるか，サブスクリプションのATOKを入れるかと迷いましたが，試しにGoogle日本語入力を入れてみたところ思ったより快適だったので，そのまま使い続けることにしました．もともとCanna出身なので変換効率なんてどうでもいいんです．Dvorakで日本語が入力できることが全てです．さもなくばJIS打ちです．Google日本語入力はDvorakローマ字を受け付けました．ATOKとの違いはcontrolキーのショートカット時にもDvorakを貫き通すことです．ATOKはcontrolキーショートカット時はQWERTYに戻ります（よってATOKはcontrol-kとかが使いやすいです）．
開発用なのでもちろん MS Office も入っていません．わざわざインストールするのも面倒なので，読む必要があるファイルを Google Docs にアップしてみました．結構読めます．それどころか，SugarSyncを入れていないマシンでも編集できます．これは素晴らしい．というわけでOfficeもスキップです．
なんか，アップルが駄目だめな時代に Mobile Me の前身の .Mac （の前身のiTools）を使っていて，Googleが落ち目になってからGoogleにどっぷりって，ちょっと世間からずれているのかもしれません．
そんなわけで，近いうちにブログを移行する予定です．
…というエントリーを投稿しようとしたら，Bloggerを使い始めてから初めて（！）Bloggerのシステムダウンにぶち当たりました．潮時なんでしょうか．

I’m writing this text with my iPad. I am not comfortable with iPad’s software QWERTTY keyboard, and this means today’s blog will be a little bit shorter than usual.
I had participated to the annual conference of Bio Medical Engineering Society for four days. When I was in graduate school, I was a student of medical engineering. After I went to Ph.D. course I changed my major to what I am doing today, however, my professors and friends have been in ME field. This is the reason why I feel I’m at home during the conference.
In these four days I have been happy to see my old friends.
I need an iPad
もっとも，ここ最近は出来るだけMacを持ち歩かないようにしている．C言語入門は手帳に書いていき，Macにたどり着いたらgccでコードを確認し，エディタで一気に書いてアップする．紙の手帳は物書きには悪くないのだが，gccが走らないのが難点だな．その点は iPad も同じだが．
電車の中でiPadを使う
Twitterやスラド経由で「特殊なC言語入門」にたくさんのアクセス，コメントをいただいた．
「特殊なC言語入門」は目次ページを準備している．いずれ Closer to Clojure のようなまとめサイトを作る予定であるが，ひとまずはブログ形式で書き綴っていこうと思う．
素性を書くと，僕自身はCプログラマではない．ポール・グレアムが言うとおり，コンパイラが出来ることをわざわざ人間がすることはないという主義を持つからだ．環境による制約もあるが，GUIを含むコードを書くときはほとんどObjective-Cを使う．Objective-CのSmallTalkライクなオブジェクトシステムは，GUIの部品や，アプリケーションのMVCモデルを実に上手に抽象化している．
一方，科学計算にはSchemeかHaskellを使うことを好む．（ただし，一番多く使うのはなんとAwkである．）既知のデータ構造はSchemeによってもっとも美しく書けると信じるし（C++STLの苦し紛れのFunctorを使いたいとは思わない），Haskellは僕の背筋をしゃんとさせる．
デバイスドライバを書くことは滅多にないが，MacからUSBデバイスをたたくときにはC++のサブセットを使う．C++を使うのはほとんど IO Kit の制約でもあるが，透かせばアセンブリ言語が見えるかのような言語仕様は，ビット操作などには適していると思う．
